Man Travels To Several Shelters To Adopt His Neighbor’s Abandoned Dog

Man Adopted Neighbor's Pit Bull

Some relationships are just meant to be. That’s why people say that the right dog will find you. Derek Schmit realized that after bonding with a stray dog in the neighborhood, who ended up having a home. But when the dog’s family refused to pick him up at the shelter, Schmit knew what he had to do.

Schmit didn’t rest until the sweet Pit Bull was home with him and his dog. The pup adjusted to his new home right away, proving that some dog and human companionships are destined to be.

Doakes, the stray Pit Bull, first met Schmit’s dog named Dexter when he was wandering the neighborhood. The two dogs loved each other and would regularly play together. Sometimes, Doakes waited by Schmit’s house so he could play with his new friend. But one day, Doakes was nowhere to be found.

Schmit later found out that someone in the neighborhood owned Doakes. The pup was taken by animal control, but the family didn’t want to pick him up, so they left him at the shelter. Schmit couldn’t let Doakes feel unwanted, so he made four phone calls and traveled to three shelters to find the Pit Bull.

When Schmit finally found Doakes at a shelter, he recorded a heartwarming video of their reunion on TikTok. The dog stares at him as he approaches, as if he was expecting him to come.

“You can tell he recognized me,” Schmit wrote. “All the other dogs are barking, and he’s just like, ‘Is that really him?'”

Where He Belongs

Now, Dexter and Doakes get to play together forever. Schmit continues to post adorable videos of the duo on TikTok, and it’s clear that both rescue dogs are where they belong.

Schmit also revealed that he has since relocated after adopting Doakes. He said he didn’t trust Doakes’ former family, and his dogs deserved a better place to live.

“Previous owners left him on the streets,” Schmit wrote. “He was picked up by animal control. I adopted him from [the] shelter. Sold my house and moved away. I didn’t trust the people. They were in and out of jail. I also relocated to a much nicer location [with] a fenced-in yard for the dogs.”

As a Pit Bull, Doakes’ life could’ve ended at a shelter if Schmit hadn’t saved him. But Schmit knows that all dogs deserve love, regardless of their breed. Doakes and Dexter are the sweetest dogs ever, and they’re lucky to have a human who cares about them so much.

Selma Blair’s Service Dog Has Heartwarming Graduation Celebration

Selma Blair with service dog

Actress Selma Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in August 2018, a year after her rescue dog passed away. The central nervous system disease can disrupt communication between the brain and the body, making everyday activities a struggle. Blair went through three years of treatment for her MS, and now she’s in remission.

Even though the most challenging parts seem to be over, life won’t be the same for Blair. So, she’s been working with a service dog named Scout, who will make her life a little easier. To celebrate Scout recently graduating from service dog training, Blair made an adorable post about him, including the cutest graduation photos.

Meet Scout!

Blair recently introduced Scout, the English Red Fox Lab, to her followers on Instagram. She has been working with Scout through Doggie Does Good Service Dogs for the past year and a half. He helps her with her mobility and other obstacles that her MS causes.

“It has been a year and a half in the making, but today my new partner, Scout, and I graduated! We are now a service dog team,” Blair wrote. “Thank you to his trainer Courtney and the whole team at @servicedogs_ddg.”

Along with a heartfelt caption, Blair posted several photos of her and Scout celebrating the pup’s graduation. In some images, he even has a tiny graduation hat.

Before Scout was in the picture, Blair went through many treatments, including chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Even though her MS is currently in remission, she will still benefit greatly from having a service dog by her side.

A Service Dog Team

Blair has been an advocate for MS over the years. So, while she’s thrilled to finally have a dog by her side, she wants to ensure that everyone knows how to be respectful around service dogs. She reminded her followers not to approach her and Scout since it can be distracting.

“He is very handsome and friendly, but if you see me and Scout, and we are working (which he really always is, as am I) then give a smile but please don’t approach. Distractions really set me back. I am building stamina and coordination with the aid of this special dog and training!” Blair wrote. “I am excited for this time to focus and settle and get out of the house more. I am so happy to have him.”

Blair is excited to be part of a “service dog team,” and she promised to share updates on social media. No matter how rough things get, she’s more confident now that she has Scout to look after her. The pup looks so enthusiastic about taking on this important role!

Boston Terrier Stolen On Christmas Miraculously Returns During Interview

Stolen Boston Terrier Found During Interview

Danny Thomason was on his way to a Christmas dinner when his worst fear happened. The Texas resident stopped at a gas station on Christmas Day with his Boston Terrier named Yogi. When Thomason stepped inside to pay for gas, he briefly left Yogi in the car with the windows cracked. But within a few minutes, Yogi was stolen.

The magical holiday quickly turned into a nightmare for Thomason. He never made it to his Christmas dinner, and instead, he kept wondering where Yogi was and if he was safe. Luckily, a few days later, he was reminded that miracles do happen.

Stolen on Christmas

Thomason is retired and lives alone, so he and Yogi are inseparable. Yogi joined the family five years ago when he was a puppy, and it was like love at first sight. Losing Yogi was just as heartbreaking as losing any other family member for Thomason.

“It was just me and him. We go everywhere together take trips together, so it’s just like losing your child,” Thomason said.

It was Christmas morning when Yogi went missing. Thomason was devastated and had no idea what to do without his furry friend. The manager at the gas station showed Thomason the security footage of the incident. Thomason explained that the video showed a man getting out of a truck, taking Yogi, and putting the pup in his vehicle before driving away.

Thomason filed a police report with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as quickly as possible, but Yogi didn’t return in time for Christmas with his family.

It’s a Miracle!

Two days after the tragic situation, a news channel interviewed Thomason. Thomason got a call from the sheriff’s office during the interview, saying the undercover deputies found Yogi. It was perfect timing!

“You can just imagine getting your child back after being kidnapped. It’s just the greatest gift,” Thomason said.

Now, Thomason is making up for lost time with Yogi. He has been taking him to visit all the family members who helped search for him. Thomason was also able to thank the deputies who helped locate the pup. The undercover deputies had been led to a home where Yogi was seen, and they later recovered him at a different location.

Charges for Yogi’s kidnapping will be filed soon. Thomason will be extra careful with his pup from now on to ensure that they’re never separated like that again. Pet theft is more common than people realize, so it’s important to be extra cautious with your dog in public.

Man’s About To Return Shelter Dog When He Read Previous Owner’s Note

A man had finally settled into his new town, but something still felt missing from his life. He thought getting a companion in the form of a shelter dog might help. So he did just that. He went to the shelter where a black Lab named Reggie needed a home. But they didn’t hit it off right away.

The man gave it two weeks (the amount of time the shelter said it may take for the dog to adjust to his new home), but it just wasn’t working out. Maybe it was the fact he was also trying to adjust to a new situation. Maybe they were too much alike. But then the man started going through Reggie’s stuff, and that’s when he was reminded of a letter the previous owner had left with the dog. That’s what would end up changing their lives dramatically.

Pregnant Pit Bull Refused To Give Birth When Foster Mom Sees In Her Ultrasound

Chris and Mariesa are the ultimate dog lovers. They already had 12 dogs but welcomed 3 to 4 more. Here’s our story of how these love-sick doggy parents met their 12th dog ever, Jackson.

Image Credit:  YouTube/HooplaHa – Only Good News

Chris and Mariesa’s visit to the shelter turned out to be just the stroke of luck one dog needed.

Storie, a heavily pregnant dog, refused to go into labor at the county kennel because she felt uncomfortable giving birth in the shelter conditions.

Mariesa and Chris were looking for a dog to care for, one they could take home right away, who was close to giving birth. They saw a small terrier in a shelter with a swollen belly and knew this was the one.

When they took Storie to the vet and had her ultrasound done, they were surprised to find she was harboring 12 puppies inside her.

The couple quickly began preparing a kennel in their home as they were expecting Storie to go into labor in a couple of days.

To their surprise, Storie went into labor that very night, just 18 hours after being picked up from the shelter. She was truly just waiting for a loving home to give birth in!

Storie and the couple welcomed 12 new puppies into the world. Chris and Mariesa already had their eyes on one puppy each to keep before putting the rest up for adoption.

With the help of Pibbles and More Animal Rescue (for whom the couple fostered Storie), all the puppies found new loving homes. We are so happy people like Chris and Mariesa exist in this world. We need more dog lovers like them!

WATCH this heartwarming story of this beautiful dog family! We fell instantly in love with them all. Be sure to pass this onto a friend or family member:

Dumped Dog Tired Of Cruel Humans, Starts Living Like A Hermit And Avoids Everyone

The 4-year-old Poodle Terrier mix never had a good experience with humans in her life and this made her incredibly fearful of them. From the time she was about 1 year old, Abby (a.k.a. The Desert Dog) roamed the deserts of Southern California alone for over 2 years, becoming an Internet sensation earlier this year when she was finally captured and taken to Long Beach Airport Animal Shelter.

A woman from a mobile home park community had been feeding and grooming Abby, who had matted fur and limited vision. The woman was worried about Abby’s survival after she found the cat’s plight on Instagram.

Abby had eluded this rescue team for two days and even ran up a tree, but she finally cooperated and was captured by them. Falling only once, the sensitive dog willingly gave her trust to. . .  Continue Reading >>

Dog Trainer Shows No Sympathy After Horrific Video Goes Public

Dog trainer abuse footage

WARNING: Content depicts animal abuse and may be sensitive to some readers.

A dog trainer in the village of Black Creek, Wisconsin, was recently exposed after a horrific video went public. Surveillance footage from the facility showed Allen Burnsworth abusing a dog named Odie. The awful video quickly gained popularity on social media, causing Burnsworth and his dog training business to receive a lot of backlash.

Burnsworth still hasn’t apologized or even owned up to his mistake. Dog parents are worried he’ll continue abusing dogs no matter what happens to his business. So, victims and other dog lovers are spreading the word as much as possible.

Animal Abuse Exposed

Burnsworth is the owner of In Touch Dog Training. In a recent clip from surveillance footage, he can be seen “training” Luke Janssen’s dog named Odie. However, Burnsworth’s form of training is blatant abuse.

In the video, Burnsworth picks the dog up by the leash, which is attached to his collar. He holds the pup in the air for a few moments before swinging him around and slamming him against the ground. Then, poor Odie cowers as Burnsworth seems to order commands at him.

“If someone saw something like that happening to my dog I would want to know,” said Shaunna Herrick, an employee who quit after the incident.

Facebook

As it turns out, Odie isn’t the only victim of this man’s dangerous training methods. The business had many bad reviews about dogs arriving home injured, but the owner removed some of them. A group of former clients also started a Facebook group to share the word about this inhumane business.

Dog Trainer Shows No Remorse

Burnsworth refuses to apologize or admit that what he did is wrong. He argued that he did what he had to do because the dog was nipping at other staff members. Janssen said that Odie was in training for some aggression issues, but Burnsworth’s actions are no way to train any dog. If anything, it will only make an aggressive dog’s behaviors worse.

“The clip that is out there is 55 seconds or 54 seconds — however long it is, less than a minute — of dealing with an aggressive dog that was attempting to bite, and attempted to bite several of the trainers, and they asked me to step in and try to help,” said Burnsworth. “We’re being railroaded by social media. It’s crazy. We have received death threats.”

Facebook

This incident is currently under investigation, but that hasn’t stopped Burnsworth. At first, he began shutting down his business, and he even listed it as “permanently closed” on Google. But now, he seems to have opened it back up despite everything. Burnsworth is even trying to make people feel sorry for him.

It’s unclear if the investigation will make a difference, but dog lovers won’t give up. With lots of people spreading the word and sharing their experiences, justice will hopefully be served. Burnsworth should never be allowed to care for someone’s dog again after his disgusting actions.

Abandoned Puppy Was Freezing To Death Outside, And Had An ‘Unlikely’ Savior

It’s only natural for us, as humans to feel drawn towards animals. We love to give our affection and support to these wonderful, innocent creatures. However, we’re not the only ones on this Earth that reach out to protect suffering animals; volunteers at animal shelters and wildlife rehabilitation centres work tirelessly each day in order to help rehabilitate homeless animals.

Some animals have been known to save those in need.

A puppy was abandoned in the freezing street. It seemed to be a newborn and according to locals, his mother was nowhere to be found.

She was pleasantly surprised when her mom got her a stuffed animal that looked just like the goose she had seen in the picture playing with the baby.

Unlikely animal friends take the internet by storm, as seen in this photo where Mama Goose seemed to be cuddling with her Pup- Goose.

These mother goose and puppy vs. wolf illustrations provide a heartwarming reminder that we should help those in need. For example, this poor pup could have died if not for the kindness of a human providing food and shelter to him.

Dog Rescued from Porta Potty

It’s no surprise that this adorable pup found her forever home almost immediately. The shelter said that hundreds of people applied to adopt her, so they were able to carefully assess each applicant to find the perfect fit.

“We are so very grateful to everyone who inquired to adopt the sweet girl. With the abundance of wonderful adopters, we were able to match her with the most perfect home for her personality and needs given all that she’s been through. It’s all love from here on out, Ms. Loo,” MSPCA-Angell wrote on Facebook.

Original Post:

Someone found an innocent Corgi mix abandoned at a construction site in Brookline, Massachusetts. They heard barking coming from an unusual place, so they called the police, which likely saved the dog’s life.

The 22-pound dog had been inside a mop bucket box that was taped shut inside a Porta Potty. Luckily, the dog was fine since someone found her in time. But she is terrified and trying to decompress from the stressful situation. Police are determined to find the person responsible.

Abandoned in an Elaborate Way

When officials arrived at the scene, the dog had managed to free her front legs from the box, but she was still trapped inside. They brought her to the Angell Animal Medical Center for further evaluation. Vets confirmed that the dog is healthy despite everything, so MSPCA-Angell took her in.

“The dog is unharmed and stable, but frightened — and is now resting at the MSPCA’s Jamaica Plain adoption center,” the humane society wrote on social media.

At first, the dog seemed very worried, but she’s starting to come around. After a few days of care, she seemed much sweeter and more relaxed. She has been kind and loving to the people caring for her, and they think she’s about five years old.

Mike Keiley, an MSPCA spokesperson, said their next goal is to help this dog get to a place where she’ll never be abandoned again. They never want her to feel that fear and discomfort ever again.

The dog didn’t have a collar, identification tag, or microchip. The humane society will wait one week for the dog’s owner to reach out, and if they don’t come forward, she’ll be put up for adoption. Several people on social media have already expressed interest in adopting her.

“These situations are always perplexing to us and disheartening for us to see,” said Keiley. “That’s a scary experience for an animal to go through. I think certainly in the wintertime, especially the cold plays a factor in addition to the other parts that are dangerous for the animal.”

This situation happened near Colchester Street in Brookline. Detectives are reaching out to residents in the area to see if they have any security footage related to the dog’s abandonment. If anyone knows something about the dog or the owner, they can contact the Brookline Police Department at (617) 730- 2730 or the MSPCA at (800) 522-6008.

Facebook Group Reunites Dogs With Their Families After Deadly Tornadoes

Record-setting tornadoes recently ripped through multiple states. The unprecedented storm left a wake of destruction more than 200 miles long. While the death count is still climbing, thousands of families continue their struggle to access even the most essential items.

The tornado – which is estimated to have reached 30,000 feet in altitude – has scattered personal items hundreds of miles. Kentucky, which was the hardest hit, has been littered with pictures and heirlooms all across the state. In any given city or town, residents are finding family pictures, checks, and a multitude of other items that were picked up by the storm and catapulted to backyards, farm fields, and parking lots clear across the commonwealth, sometimes spanning into surrounding states.

Facebook

The importance of these seemingly small items didn’t go unnoticed. The Facebook group, Quad State Tornado Found Items, was started in an attempt to reunite cherished heirlooms with their families. People are thrilled to recover even half of a tattered picture, many of which captured loved ones who lost their lives in the storm. Among these precious things that have been lost and found are family pets looking for their homes.

The Forgotten Victims Are Still Waiting To Be Rescued

Mayfield and Dawson Springs, Kentucky were among the hardest hit. Previously, these small towns had a combined population of under 15,000. The tornadoes destroyed thousands of homes, farms, and businesses. Rescuers, locals, and disaster relief organizations have been combing the streets of these once-picturesque small towns trying to piece together any salvageable form of life.

Facebook

Every once in a while, a resident or rescue worker will come across a four-legged friend wandering lost among the debris. In a true demonstration of Kentuckians’ warmth and honesty, others will add their comments offering their support or their ideas of who the dog belongs to. People who faired better than their friends and family are often seen offering to take the dogs into their own homes until they can be returned to a home of their own.

Facebook

Facebook

Thankfully, like many of the family photos, dogs are being reunited with their families through the power of social media. Those whose families are unable to be found, or who tragically lost their lives, are being taken in by local shelters.

In addition to the incredible work being done on Facebook, families looking for their lost furry friends can also register on PetFBI.org. This database allows families to enter their pet’s information so that they can have a better chance of being reunified.

Help Is Still Needed As Response Efforts Continue

Each day, more and more pets are posted to Quad State Tornado Lost and Found and its sister group, Quad State Tornado Lost & Found Pets. As of the writing of this article, local shelters are still in need of supplies:

Mayfield-Graves County Animal Shelter

  • Cat litter
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Wet cat food
  • Gallons of water

Humane Society of Marshall County

  • Crates
  • Bowls
  • Kennels
  • Leashes and collars
  • Beds
  • Litter
  • Litter Pans

Mashall County Animal Care and Control

  • Thick blankets
  • Tarps
  • Cat litter

McCracken County Humane Society

  • Pine-Sol
  • Dawn dish liquid
  • Canned puppy food
  • Washcloths
  • Kennels
  • Towels
  • Clumping litter

In addition to the above shelters, The Bowling Green-Warren County Animal Shelter, Max’s Hope Pet Rescue, Christian County Animal Shelter, and the Muhlenberg County Humane Society are taking in strays and helping them find their families.

Despite the devastation, these dogs are making the best of it. Their perseverance is a shining light of hope for the future ahead. Just like any other day, these pups continue to teach us all important life lessons, like the fact that sometimes we all just need a break to regroup and keep pushing on.

Neglected Deaf Dog And Best Friend Get Adopted Together After 2 Long Years

Bonded Salukis get adopted

Just before Christmas in 2019, the RSPCA rescued four dogs from a small shed. Rescuers believe the dogs were used for hunting, but received minimal human contact other than that. Two of the dogs, Eve and Dasher, were Salukis. The other two dogs were named Angel and Tinsel.

Angel and Tinsel found their forever homes right away while Eve and Dasher were left behind. The two are a bonded pair, and Eve is deaf. So, not everyone was willing to take on the extra work that these shy dogs required. But now, they’re finally getting a Christmas miracle!

Duo Patiently Waits

The four neglected dogs waited for their forever homes at the RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre in Hertfordshire, England, where Angel and Tinsel were quickly adopted. But sadly, Eve and Dasher were harder to place. Yet, the shelter was determined to keep them together.

“All four dogs were really nervous upon arrival, and it didn’t seem as though they’d had much human interaction in their lives. They were underweight and had been suffering from diarrhea, but, thankfully, they were soon feeling much better,” said an RSPCA spokesperson.

The RSPCA does everything they can to make every Christmas at the shelter special for the dogs, but nothing can beat a forever home. These pups celebrated Christmas twice at the RSPCA before finding the home of their dreams. Over time, they slowly grew healthier and more confident.

It took 18 months for Eve and Dasher to find their forever home, but it was well worth it when they did.

A Christmas Miracle!

The two Salukis now live with Kelly Coupland, Scott Marshall, and their retired racing Greyhound named Biscuit. The couple from Staffordshire recently lost their 16-year-old Saluki named Fawn, so they were ready to open up their hearts to another dog in need. Yet, they couldn’t resist the adorable pair, so they adopted both Eve and Dasher.

“Salukis have so much sass and character. They want to be the center of the universe and I just love that, so I knew I wanted a dog with a bit of Saluki in them, and then we spotted Evie and Dasher! They have settled in really well especially considering how long they were in kennels,” Coupland said.

Coupland added that Eve loves to cuddle on the couch with her humans. They’re teaching her commands through hand signals to form a closer bond. Dasher is more scared, but he has been coming out of his shell in his own ways. Both dogs love going for hikes with Biscuit and their humans.

After two years in the shelter, Eve and Dasher are excited to finally spend Christmas in a loving home. Coupland said that she has plenty of presents and festive treats for them during the holidays. After everything they’ve been through, they deserve to be loved and spoiled as much as possible from now on!

UPS Driver Makes Time Amid Holiday Deliveries To Find A Lost Dog

As you can imagine, the holiday season is a very busy time for delivery drivers. One UPS employee in Tennessee still had his priorities in order though, tacking a search and rescue mission onto his already busy schedule.

When driver Darrell Slack drove up to Paula Odom’s home in Turtletown, he found her distraught over her Jack Russell Terrier Pete’s disappearance. Because their home is surrounded by the 500-plus acre Cherokee National Forest, Odom began to fret the worst.

WRCBtv

She told Fox Business:

“In that forest there are coyotes, there are bears…my fear was that Pete is not mountain-wise and wouldn’t know what to do in a situation like that and the chance we’d see him again was slim to none.”

Slack, employed by UPS for 29 years, immediately took on the problem as his own. As soon as he heard about Pete’s predicament, he offered the assistance of himself and his truck.

“She told me, ‘Our dog’s gone’ and that he had escaped the front porch. I just told her, ‘We’ll find him.’”

Always Keep Dog Treats In The Truck

As he continued doing deliveries, Slack decided to take a bit of a different route. When he reached a remote area, he suddenly spotted Pete in his peripheral vision.

WRCBtv

Slack keeps a bag of dog biscuits in his UPS truck, which he says helps him make friends with neighborhood dogs. As he explained to WRCBtv:

“You have some that initially don’t want to warm up to you, but after you feed them for a week or so, they’re running to the truck, they’re glad to see you.”

When Slack called Pete’s name and held out a treat, Pete came running over. That enabled Slack to pick him up and put him into the truck with him.

WRCBtv

Slack then “completed the delivery” by returning to Odom’s home with Pete in tow. Now that’s delivering on a promise.

“As he held Pete in his arms I just about collapsed. I was overjoyed,” Odom said.

Always There For His Community

Even at the busiest time of the year, Darrell Slack made time for something as important as a lost dog. He told Fox Business it’s his duty as a member of his community:

“This area is a home away from home for me and a lot of drivers feel the same way. I just love these people and when I need them, they’re there for me.”

WRCBtv

When your dog goes missing, all you know is fear and anxiety. On top of holiday time stress, that’s the last thing anyone needs. Odom expressed sincere gratitude for Slack and noted:

“It speaks volumes — especially right now at Christmas.”

Best Christmas gift ever!
