These Five Sweethearts Have New Lives Because Of You!

Thanks to the heroes who purchase our products, many loving animals get a second chance at life. These five dogs and cats are just some of the pets who have benefitted from Greater Good Charities. 

Saving Orphan Souls Rescue is one of the many animal organizations that benefit from these donations. Thanks to them, two Siamese cats and three Miniature Schnauzers were given a better life.

Keiko and Esmerelda

Keiko and Esmerelda are both Siamese cats with a heartbreaking past. Esmerelda was about to be put down because she had a severe sinus infection that the shelter couldn’t seem to control. Keiko was found as a stray and was desperately searching for a loving family. Thanks to generous donations, both kitties are safe now.

Esmerelda was able to go through treatment, and now she’s doing better than ever! Keiko was quickly adopted and has since headed off to her forever home.

Donations to these cats and other felines include scratching posts and blankets. That way, they can feel more comfortable as they wait to get adopted. These small donations can be life-changing for some cats!

Logan, Lana, and Lacey

Logan, Lana, and Lacey are all Miniature Schnauzers of varying ages. Lana is 15, Logan is 13, and Lacey is 2. Lana and Logan were hard to find homes for due to their age, and Lacey was near death when she was rescued. She was only 6 weeks old when she almost died during a transport.

Today, all three pups are thriving. Lana and Logan and in a permanent foster home where they help out at the rescue. They’re happier and feeling more alive than they’ve ever been! Sweet little Lacey is also thriving and with a forever family now.

Like cats, dogs at this rescue also greatly benefit from donations. Having a comfortable place to rest their head makes them cozier while they wait for forever homes. Many rescue dogs have never felt love before, so every donation helps provide them with the care they deserve.

RECALL: Dog Food Recalled After Life-Threatening Salmonella Contamination

Several formulas of raw dog food have been recalled due to salmonella contamination. Salmonella is not a high risk for dogs, but it could be life-threatening for humans. After all, dogs can carry the bacteria without showing any symptoms.

UK company Natural Instinct recalled several duck-flavored products due to a potential risk of salmonella. This outbreak is only in the UK, and the affected products have been pulled from the shelves.

Symptoms to Look Out for

In many cases, salmonella is harmless to dogs. Dogs infected with salmonella could experience symptoms like fever, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, and a decreased appetite. Even if a dog shows no symptoms, they can still carry the pathogen and pass it on to humans. Dogs can easily pass salmonella through feces and saliva.

Salmonella could be life-threatening for humans. The most common symptoms in humans are diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, which could all lead to more severe conditions. So, this food has been recalled for the safety of both humans and animals.

What to Do Next

If you have purchased any of the affected products, do not serve them to your dog. Instead, you can return products to your place of purchase for a full refund. Natural Instinct is sold at local UK retailers and online, but the recalled products are no longer for sale.

Any time you handle dog food, especially when it’s raw, you should wash your hands after. Raw dog food should be stored away from all other foods, and you should wash bowls and utensils after they’ve come into contact with it. Dog parents should also proceed with caution when defrosting raw dog food.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry with your canine’s health as well as your own. That’s why it’s important to keep an eye on all current pet food recalls.

Devonte Graham Is The Most Loving Dog Dad You’ve Ever Seen

Devonte Graham is a 26-year-old point guard for the Charlotte Hornets. He’s also the dog dad to German Shepherd Charlotte. It’s a perfect name if you ask me! Charlotte – or Baby Charlotte as he likes to call her – has been winning over hearts on Graham’s social media!

When Graham isn’t busy making 3-pointers, he likes to spend his time cuddling with his fuzzy furbaby. He also works hard honing Charlotte’s athletic ability! The dynamic duo like to play fetch between the first and third floors of their house and throw a ball around their private basketball court.

Cute AND A Good Luck Charm

Baby Charlotte has been a staple in the Charlotte Hornets family since Graham brought her home. Graham brought Charlotte’s dog tag to the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery which proved to be good luck for the team. They were awarded the third overall pick resulting in LaMelo Ball joining the Hornets. Ball later became the 2021 Rookie of the Year!

The bond between Graham and Baby Charlotte is clearly unbreakable. So much so that Graham trusts Charlotte around a pretty impressive sneaker collection! She doesn’t seem to be tempted by the delicious and expensive array of footwear snacks. Even if she were to give in to that temptation, who could be mad at such a precious face? Certainly not her dad!

Aly Raisman’s Dog Has Been Missing Since 4th Of July Fireworks

The Fourth of July is the day of the year that the most dogs go missing. Everyone assumes it won’t happen to their dog, but you never know when your dog will get spooked and slip away. Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman is one of the many heartbroken dog parents who lost a dog on this holiday, and she’s still on the lookout. Her rescue dog named Mylo ran off after getting spooked by fireworks, and he hasn’t been seen since. Raisman is urging everyone near Boston to keep an eye out for him and to keep their own dogs safe during the Fourth of July.

A Celebration Gone Wrong

Mylo, who is a friend of Chris Evans’ dog Dodger, hates fireworks like most dogs do. So, when he heard the loud sounds during a Fourth of July celebration, he ran off with his leash still on. Raisman turned to social media to ask for help finding him.

“To my followers in the Seaport/Boston area…my dog Mylo was terrified of fireworks and ran off. He has a tag on and a leash. Please let me know if you see him. Thank you,” Raisman wrote on Instagram.

Instead of gathering a search party to look for the pup, Raisman encouraged followers to be passive. She wants them to keep an eye out for Mylo and report sightings, but not follow him or try to catch him. Dogs can act differently when on the run, so it’s better to be cautious.

“Please do not go out and actively search for Mylo. He is terrified, and the folks at Missing Dogs Mass advised that we don’t have anyone yelling his name or running around looking for him. I was told that scared dogs will make bad decisions if they are pressured, and that is the last thing that we want to have happen,” Raisman said.

The Search Continues

Raisman has continued to post daily updates on the situation, along with more photos of the pup. As of July 6th, Mylo is still missing. Animal organization Missing Dogs Mass is now offering support to the gymnast. They created lost dog flyers, along with a map of areas where Mylo could be.

“If anyone should see Mylo, please don’t post the location in social media comments, but message me directly at lynnraisman@gmail.com,” Raisman added.

Poor Mylo is likely extra scared and nervous. Anyone in the Boston/Seaport area should keep an eye out for the pup, but don’t chase him. He is a brown and white dog with bright blue eyes. He also weighs about 35 pounds. Hopefully, Raisman will be able to post good news about Mylo soon!

Survey Reveals How The Pandemic Has Changed Our Pets

In addition to the medical ones, the coronavirus pandemic had many other unforeseen consequences. Some of those changes include our pets’ behavior, according to a recent survey cataloging thousands of pet parents.

Just like their human family members, companion animals had to adjust to a new way of life during Covid. For some, that shifted the way they interact with their families or with others outside the household.

Researchers from the Universities of York and Lincoln in the UK surveyed 5,323 people with companion animals, including horses, reptiles, birds, and fish in addition to cats and dogs. The results saw over 65% of participants reporting changes in their animals’ behavior during lockdown in 2020.

How Changes In Socialization Affected Animals

For this survey, participants answered several sets of questions about their animals, their own mental health, and their relationships. They were also encouraged to leave additional comments.

About a third of survey participants, mostly dogs and cat owners, noticed that their animals followed them around more than usual. One survey participant described how spending more time at home made her dog needier:

“My dog has become a lot more needy and howls if I leave the house without him, even if it’s just to do some gardening and he can see me. Going back to work will be very hard on him.”

Another survey participant noted how a lack of regular interaction with other people and dogs affected her Lab:

“My dog misses the socializing; he doesn’t understand what has happened. He is a very friendly Labrador and doesn’t understand why people won’t make a fuss of him anymore, people cross the road to avoid him.”

On a seemingly more positive note, the survey also indicated that pet cats became more affectionate and relaxed during the pandemic. One cat person said:

“I have two rescue cats – one was very skittish, but she is much calmer now I am home every day.”

More research may be necessary, but interestingly these responses indicate the pandemic has affected animals just like it has human beings.

A Human’s Mental Health As An Important Factor

The researchers also looked at pet owners’ mental health before and during lockdown to see if that may have caused some of these reported changes. University of York health scientist Emily Shoesmith explained:

“Our findings indicate that poorer mental health may increase attention paid to one’s companion animal. Empathic engagement may increase reporting of any changes, both positive and negative, in animal welfare and behavior.”

University of Lincoln clinical animal behaviorist Daniel Mills also noted that our moods and behaviors might encourage or discourage certain behaviors in our pets.

“Owner mental health status has a clear effect on companion animal welfare and behavior. [It’s] clearly something we need to consider when we seek to do what is best for the animals we care for.”

Maybe some of us are the real needy ones in our animals’ eyes. One thing we do know for sure is that we all learn from and impact each other.

Dog Mom Discovers That Her Baby Has The Same Birthmark As Her Late Dog

A pair of grieving pet parents were working through the loss of their beloved Samoyed when they were met with life-changing news. After losing their dog Reno just hours earlier, the couple discovered that they were expecting a baby.

The new mother from China had 12 years of beautiful memories with her beloved Samoyed pup. He was at her side during so many pivotal moments in her life, making it no surprise that he found a way to be at her side during this moment as well.

The Wang family lost Reno to a combination of acute kidney failure, cancer, and pancreatitis. The immeasurable pain was made a bit lighter when they learned they were expecting a baby, allowing them to look forward to their new addition.

After welcoming their son into the world, the couple still found themselves missing their first baby, Reno. They often wished Reno could be a part of their new life, forever thinking of the imprint he left on their hearts. While it may have seemed like Reno was no longer with them, he was actually close by the entire time.

As Wang’s son grew older, a grey birthmark began to develop on his left arm. As the birthmark became more prominent, the new mother made an incredible connection. Reno had a similar mark in the exact same spot.

Before Reno passed, he began to lick his front left leg to the point of his fur falling out in that area. This led to a color change in the fur that grew back, causing a dark spot in the same area as her new son’s birthmark. Once she made the connection, she was overcome with emotions.

“Recently, the birthmark has become more and more obvious. When a friend reminded me of Reno’s scar also on the left leg, I was shocked. I cried a lot when I noticed the connection with Reno. I love Reno so much.” – Wang

There will always be things we cannot explain in this world, and this definitely feels like one of those moments. The couple states that they do not believe in reincarnation, but they can acknowledge just how beautiful of a coincidence this is.

We can all relate to the pain of losing a beloved pet, so the potential of them still being with us is always a beautiful thought. We send all our love to the Wang family as they heal from the loss of their pup, and hope they find comfort in this incredible coincidence.

Kaley Cuoco Adopts Giant Senior Dog After Losing Her Best Friend

At actress Kaley Cuoco’s home, there’s always room for more rescue dogs! She and her husband Karl Cook have more pets than they’d care to admit, but this past year hasn’t been easy. They recently said goodbye to Norman, their long-term companion, and Petunia, their recently adopted senior dog.

For most families, that would deter them from adopting more, but the animal lovers only waited about six months before bringing in a new family member. Their newest addition is a 9-year-old Mastiff who’s full of love!

Meet Larry!

Cuoco spent 14 beautiful years with her Pit Bull named Norman. Her production company is even named “Yes, Norman Productions” after him. Losing Norman left one of the biggest holes in her heart, and she knew the only way to fill it was to help another dog in need.

Recently, Cuoco turned to Instagram to introduce her newest family member. She and Cook decided to open their hearts to a giant senior dog named Larry.

“When you know you know! Welcome to the family, Larry!” Cuoco wrote on Instagram. “He’s a 9 year old ginormous mastiff chunk mutt of love and we are obsessed.”

In her post, Cuoco made sure to thank Paws for Life K9 Rescue, shelter photographer Rita Earl, and Larry’s loving foster family. Cuoco also shared a series of photos with the new lovable canine.

Always Room for More

Cuoco’s home currently has a goat, a bunny, about 20 horses, several dogs, and more. Yet, she can never say no to more animals in need. Despite being a massive dog, Larry has plenty of space to adjust and feel comfortable in his new home.

In Cuoco’s photos, it looks like Larry already feels at home with his forever family. He loves to cuddle and give kisses. Cuoco even jokes that he’s as big as a horse. Although she shared a photo of him meeting one of her horses, and he’s tiny in comparison. Cuoco also shared a photo of Larry going for a walk with a few of her other dogs.

Senior dogs are often the most overlooked at shelters and rescues, but they can make the best companions. Cuoco has adopted several dogs in their senior years, and she’s a huge advocate for rescue dogs in general. If you’re looking to bring a new furry family member home, consider meeting the older ones first. They have the most love to give.
