Man Who Shot Lady Gaga’s Dog Walker Is Accidentally Released From Jail

In early 2021, Lady Gaga’s dog walker was shot as attackers tried to steal her three French Bulldogs. The thieves took two of the singer’s dogs and left the dog walker bleeding out. It’s suspected that the dognappers didn’t know the Frenchies belonged to a celebrity.

It was a roller coaster of emotions, but eventually, all of Gaga’s dogs returned home, and five people were charged. James Howard Jackson, Jaylin White, and Lafayette Whaley were charged for the attempted murder of Ryan Fischer, Gaga’s dog walker. But in an unexpected situation, Jackson was released from jail far too soon, and reports say it was a mistake.

A Clerical Error

Reports state that Jackson is the one who shot Fisher. He was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and second-degree robbery. So, he was supposed to have a long sentence ahead of him.

However, he was released at 3:38 pm on April 6th due to a clerical error. Last month, prosecutors considered filing a new case involving an amended indictment relating to Harold White and Jennifer McBride, who assisted in the theft but weren’t charged as heavily.

Since the initial case was supposed to be replaced by the new one, the system had an error that said Jackson’s case was dismissed. He had only been in custody for a year, and his bail was over $3 million.

This isn’t the first time something like this has occurred in Los Angeles. In 2018, Steven Manzo was accused of killing a man but was released shortly after a technical error dismissed his case. The case was immediately refiled, and Manzo was taken into custody again.

Searching for Suspect

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which runs the jail system, hasn’t spoken up about the situation. Authorities are currently searching for Jackson, but they haven’t been successful yet. After what he did to Gaga’s dogs and dog walker, it’s terrifying to think that the man is temporarily on the streets again.

Fischer has spoken out since the incident and explained that he’s traumatized by it. Yet, he has no resentment toward Lady Gaga and her furry friends. Jackson shot him because he refused to give up the dogs when asked. So, that shows his extreme dedication to the dogs in his care.

Gaga and Fischer will never be the same after this incident, but at least the dogs are safe. Once Jackson is brought back into custody, Gaga can breathe a sigh of relief once again. Sadly, Frenchie owners need to be extra cautious when walking their dogs since the breed is in such high demand.

Kids Write Touching Stories From Shelter Dogs’ Perspective To Help Them Get Adopted

An elementary school teacher came up with an incredible idea to help the adoptable animals at Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC). With the help of her students and the shelter director, the adorable plan was set into motion!

Mrs. Jones at St. Michael’s Episcopal School volunteers with the team at RACC. After getting to know the many dogs and cats that need forever homes, she spoke with the shelter director about how she could help.

After some brainstorming, the two came up with an idea to enlist the help of the teacher’s creative second graders. The plan involved assigning each student an adoptable pet and having them write a heartwarming story from the dog’s point of view. If all went to plan, this would help the furry friends find potential adopters.

“The class was working on persuasive writing, and they wrote pieces as if they were speaking on behalf of the shelter dog trying to get adopted. I said, ‘That’s the coolest idea…let’s do it.’” – Christie Peters, RACC director

RACC Director Christie Peters stopped by the school with one of the many adoptable pups that needed a home. She shared the stories of each adoptable animal and allowed the students to get started on their persuasive story writing. The results were even more impressive than anyone could have imagined!

“On Monday, our Director visited the class with an adoptable pup (Snow-the cutest puppy ever!) in an effort to inspire the students to write a persuasive story from the perspective of a shelter pet waiting to be adopted,” RACC wrote in a Facebook post. “The result?!? INCREDIBLE!!! Heartwarming stories and beautiful illustrations now adorn our dog kennels and the writing is VERY persuasive!”

The students created 24 beautiful stories and drawings for the individual pups, as well as one cat. Their projects would soon be posted to each adoptable animal’s run at the shelter, hoping to persuade potential adopters as they walked through.

The shelter shared a few of these drawings on their Facebook page and told their followers to stop by and view the stories themselves. The result? 21 of the 24 animals written about have been adopted!

“It’s such a creative way that we partnered with this school to bring awareness and I hope it’s something other shelters in the country will do to market their shelter animals.” – Mrs. Jones, teacher

Mrs. Jones says that as each animal got adopted, the students cheered with joy at the thought of their words playing such a huge role. We love to see these creative efforts that make such a huge difference, and we hope shelters around the country can become inspired!

Homeless 17-Year-Old Surrenders His Beloved Dog To Keep Her Safe

Many people are quick to judge when someone surrenders their dog to a shelter. But giving up a dog is not an easy decision, and most people have a good reason for doing so. A 17-year-old boy did the right thing when he brought his furry friend to the shelter. The boy is currently homeless, so he knew he couldn’t support the pup any longer. But now, the dog is heartbroken.

After hearing the boy’s story, many people in the community were touched. Since the boy lives in a small town, getting back on his feet will be tricky. But many individuals have offered support to the boy and his dog if he’s willing to accept help.

Doing the Responsible Thing

The boy and his dog were living under a bridge in Senatobia, Mississippi. The dog named Jada is a four-month-old Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix who had been with the boy since she was a tiny pup. The two have a strong bond, but the boy gave her up to the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter because he couldn’t care for her.

He walked Jada all the way to the shelter and gave them a garbage bag filled with her food and blanket. Even though the shelter was at capacity, they knew they couldn’t say no. They kept Jada in the main area of the facility, but she became miserable as soon as her human left.

“My heart broke for him. He was clearly saddened by having to bring his dog up here,” Shelter Director Kris Robinson said. “She was kind of clinging to him around his legs. Every time he would move, she would move. She has bonded with him.”

After the boy left, Jada plopped on the ground and moped. Someone at the shelter took a photo of her lying there beside the garbage bag with her stuff. They shared the image on social media, and people instantly felt heartbroken for Jada and the boy.

Community Steps Up

Someone will foster Jada while law enforcement looks into the situation. Ever since the shelter mentioned the boy’s predicament on Facebook, several people have offered help. Some people claimed they could house him and his dog, and others were willing to help him find a job. A local church also offers temporary shelter and food to those who need it.

Currently, the shelter has been unable to reach the boy, but he has several options for assistance if he’s willing to take it. Robinson believes his decision to surrender Jada was very intelligent. He could’ve easily abandoned the dog, but he went out of his way to keep his four-legged family member safe.

“I think that boy has a lot more integrity than a lot of people around here who dump animals and puppies when they can’t take care of them,” Robinson said.

The shelter said they will update followers if they hear from the boy or gain more information. But for the time being, Jada will be receiving the best care possible. Hopefully, she and her human will be reunited soon.

Bald & Sassy Senior Westie Is Still Searching For The Perfect Home

Jay the West Highland Terrier has been looking for a forever home for over 430 days. But sadly, he’s almost completely bald, which has deterred many families from expressing interest. As a result of his hair loss, he also has a lot of specific needs that may be difficult for potential adopters to afford. Yet, he refuses to give up!

While he might not look like your typical Westie, Jay has a sweet and sassy attitude, just like many other dogs of his breed. He knows he’s a special boy, but he can’t help but wonder why no one has wanted to adopt him yet.

Meet Jay!

Jay is about nine years old, but he’s very lively for his age. He arrived at the RSPCA Macclesfield, SE Cheshire & Buxton branch in early 2021 after his elderly owners became too sick to care for him. They had taken great care of him, but he suffered from severe hair loss because of his allergies, which are common in Westies.

“We worry that this is what’s putting potential adopters off of offering him a new home, but we really hope that there’ll be someone out there who can look past his lack of hair and see that he has a whole lot of love to give,” said SPCA spokesperson Carmen Cole.

However, Jay’s lack of hair isn’t the only setback. Since he’s a senior dog with allergies, he has a lot of unique needs that other dogs at that shelter might not have. Some of Jay’s requirements include:

• A special diet
• Eye drops for dry eye
• Cream and coconut oil for a daily skin massage
• Medicated baths for allergies
• Ear cleaner to prevent ear infections
• Oral medications

So, Jay’s care is a little more expensive and time-consuming than most people can commit to. But these extra care requirements are worth it to spend time with this lovable potato. Plus, the coconut oil makes him smell good!

A Forever Home is Out There

Jay has been looking for a forever family for 430 days and counting, but he won’t give up hope. He’s a quirky dog for sure, but he just needs to find a family who understands him. He loves going on car rides, getting butt scratches, and eating vegetables. He’s a sweet boy, but he prefers to only cuddle on his terms.

This charming pup would do best in a home without children or other pets. He wants to keep all the love to himself! His adopters also need to be aware that his vision and mobility may decline in the future due to his age.

“We know it is going to be a struggle to find a home that will tick all of Jay’s boxes, and we understand that the cost of his ongoing care may be putting people off,” Cole said. “But we won’t give up on Jay; he is a spicy character, who is a cheeky chappie with heaps of charm and who has expensive taste — but being this cute doesn’t come cheap! It takes a lot of work to look as good as he does — he deserves the very best.”

Highly Contagious Respiratory Disease Affecting Dogs Spreads Across Florida

As more dogs fall ill in several Florida counties, animal services and city officials are warning dog parents to be cautious of an infectious respiratory disease. The disease spreading across south Florida is highly contagious, and many dogs have already been affected.

Promoting awareness of Canine Infection Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC) can help slow the spread. You should also know how to keep your dog from contracting or passing on the disease.

About Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC)

CIRDC causes inflammation of the upper respiratory system. Dr. Maria Serrano, a veterinarian at Miami-Dade Animal Services, explained to CBS:

“Canine infectious respiratory disease complex is like a canine flu or canine cold. It’s multiple viruses that affect the respiratory tract and causes respiratory symptoms. Sneezing, coughing, and hacking.”

Serrano also noted parents should take this seriously, as the disease can “progress to something more serious, pneumonia, fever, lethargy, not eating.” Cases may mostly be in South Florida for now, but we have all seen how fast viruses can spread.

Animal facilities like Miami-Dade Animal Services have temporarily suspended certain services like in-person adoption events and owner surrenders to reduce the surge.

How Dog Parents Can Protect Their Dogs And Others

If your dog has not yet been infected, there are ways you can keep them from contracting CIRDC. Dr. Serrano suggested these actions:

“Stay away from places that have dogs conglomerating. So dog parks, groomers, just anywhere where there’s a lot of dogs together. Also, avoid nose to nose contact between dogs.”

Since the virus spreads through direct contact with an infected dog or people who have been exposed, it can live on clothing, hands, or other items like food bowls, leashes, toys, and bedding. You should avoid letting your dog share toys and bowls with others until cases go down.

Disinfect your surfaces and wash toys and bedding in warm to hot water. You should also refrain from petting unknown dogs (wash your hands thoroughly with soap if you do!)

Fortunately, there is a treatment for CIRDC. If you detect symptoms of the disease in your dog, take them to the vet for diagnosis and antibiotics. The incubation period of the illness is three to 10 days. If your dog gets infected, they could be sick for two weeks to a month.

Navy Dog Who Rescued 53 People Spends Her Retirement As A Pampered Pet

A few years ago, we told you about an adorable Labrador named Frida. Frida worked with the Mexican Navy’s Canine Unit. Her job required her to work alongside soldiers to rescue people and save their lives just in the nick of time – something she excelled at.

The selfless pup rose to international stardom after rescuing 12 people following the 2017 earthquakes in Oaxaca and Mexico City. When she was just a year old, Frida traveled to Haiti to participate in rescue operations after the deadly earthquakes. Locating over 50 people throughout her career and her dedication to her country won the hearts of people all over the world.

A statue of Frida was erected and dedicated in her honor in Puebla City back in 2018. After devoting her life to helping others, 10-year-old Frida traded in her protective equipment for a dog toy and a comfy bed in 2019. Now, three years later, Frida is 13-years-old, and her health is declining.

Even Heros Have To Slow Down

There is no immediate risk of death. However, Frida’s Navy family is aware that it is imminent, and they are preparing to say goodbye.

“Frida is in stable health, has some age-related ailments, and is under permanent medical review. There is no latent risk that she could die, but she is already a geriatric animal and as such, we need to have the necessary care,” said Lieutenant Miguel Angel Huerta Miranda, a veterinarian caring for Frida.

Like many other dogs her age, she no longer runs or jumps. Frida has taken a slower and more relaxed approach to life, and rightfully so.

“She no longer performs any operational activity, she is in retirement, we just keep her under special nutrition, medical care, and relaxation. She no longer performs any physical activity,” Miranda told Vallarta Daily.

Her Country Continues To Honor Her Contributions In Her Final Days

Frida, whose once golden hair is now white, begins her day at 9:00 AM. She starts out relaxing in the garden before heading inside for breakfast. After breakfast, she returns to her kennel to rest. Frida is checked multiple times throughout the day by one of her three veterinarians. They pay special attention to her heart, lungs, and joints.

“She has a lot of charisma, she gives us a lot of joy, peace, a lot of security. She is totally an icon, she is a dog that marked the history of the Mexican Navy and that is why we keep her, we make an effort to keep her in good health,” said Miranda.

While Frida enjoys a laid-back lifestyle these days, the memories of her heroism reverberate throughout the world. Frida’s wagging tail and resounding bark always gave hope in times of despair.

Former Undersecretary of the Navy, Eduardo Redondo Aramburo said, “She has told us without a single word that faith is an internal force that should never be lost.”
