Dedicated Rescue Is At Risk Of Shutting Down, Leaving 600 Animals In Danger

Three years ago, Janessa Baar became inspired to save animals on the island of Roatan, Honduras. So, she formed Roatan Rescue, an organization that saves and rehabilitates animals in need on the island. Thanks to the kind hearts of staff members and volunteers, the stray dog problem on the island has dramatically decreased.

Sadly, despite saving the lives of thousands of animals, not everyone is happy with their efforts. A group of people is attempting to shut the rescue down, which could put 600 animals at risk of death and ruin the hard work Baar’s team has accomplished. The rescue is unsure how many days it has left, but Baar is hopeful that animal lovers will come through to save the organization.

Rescue Fights To Stay Open

2022 is off to a rough start for the Roatan Rescue. They recently turned to social media to post a frantic message, begging supporters to help them stay open. They’ve been preparing their permits for months, but a group of people keeps fighting back and trying to get them to close. This pushback is causing problems that could shut down the organization for good.

“There’s a permit we need to keep the rescue operating. We were told we were okay. Today we’ve received the news we’re NOT. There’s a small group of people who have been working to close the rescue,” Roatan Rescue wrote.

If this rescue shuts down, about 600 animals would have nowhere to go, and many would likely die. Many local people also rely on the organization for meals that they can’t afford otherwise. So, losing this rescue would take a huge toll on the island.

Baar says that the group fighting against Roatan Rescue is led by the president of another animal rescue. However, she doesn’t want to give out personal information because many other people at that rescue are doing amazing things for animals in need.

How Can You Help?

Roatan Rescue is pursuing legal action, but they continue to be harassed by individuals trying to shut the shelter down. They can’t afford lawyers or private security, so they fear what could happen to the animals if things don’t work out for them.

“Stand up against bullies. Stand up against people wanting to close down the rescue. Stand up against anyone wanting to hurt the animals,” wrote Baar.

Poor Couple With Rusty Crate Bangs On Door Of Wealthy House That Hid Sick Dog

It is our obligation as pet owners, regardless of the circumstances, to offer our pets love, comfort, suitable nutrition, and medical care. This isn’t something that may be overlooked. When decent people finally step in, we can rejoice.

A tiny dog with mange and secondary skin problems that had gone untreated for a long time was living a terrible existence. Because he didn’t have fur, this only worsened his condition, resulting in significant matting in places where he didn’t lose his hair. His poor body was just awful.

He was left in the care of his owners, who did nothing to assist him. They kept him hidden away in their yard and acted as little as possible for him. The odd thing is that they had plenty of money to treat him! Finally, a neighbor heard the dog crying and stepped in to assist. The family initially fought the neighbor, claiming that the dog would be just fine on his own, but she didn’t believe it. She brought her husband by with her so he could witness things firsthand and deliver some appropriate advice to the family himself.

The self-centered family eventually gave up the dog. The poor youngster looked sad. His skin diseases were so severe that his entire body was frail. The good neighbors didn’t have a lot of money, so they borrowed a rickety crate from a buddy to race the puppy back to the veterinarian clinic. When he realized these people were there to assist him, the dog became terrified, but he eventually quieted down when he understood they were sent by God!

The veterinarian and his team were relieved that the dog was brought in since he clearly needed help. The first item of business was to remove any remaining hair from his body so they might treat his skin as thoroughly as possible. They administered an IV with fluids and pain medication, as well as antibiotics. The dog was incredibly courageous!

He’d require medicated baths and topical antibiotic lotion, as well as oral antibiotics. He would feel a long way better once the infections were under control. They made sure he was wearing little shirts to keep him warm because he was now hairless. When he happily ate his first meal, he proved how much better he was doing by showing them.

The kind neighbors who took the dog in visited him every day at the vet clinic while he was recovering. They already loved the dog and informed the veterinarian and his staff that they would like to formally adopt him and bring him home once he was medically approved. The veterinarian made sure to inform the dog’s previous owners that this pup would not be returning.

The dog was approved for adoption, and within a few weeks, he was healthy enough to go to his new family’s house, where they would take wonderful care of him. They had dogs before, and all of them got along wonderfully. We couldn’t be happier for such a deserving dog and his new family.

Child With Prosthetic Leg Gets Puppy With Same Limb Difference As Her

Life has an entirely different set of obstacles to conquer when living with a disability. This is something that 10-year-old Anna Grace has known her entire life.

Anna Grace was born missing part of her leg. Unlike most girls her age, she wears a prosthetic in order to walk. However, like any other 10-year-old, Anna Grace has always wanted a puppy. More specifically, a puppy with the same challenges as her.

Anna Grace’s mother, Wynne Philippe, said the little girl knows how it feels to be different. Because of this, Anna Grace wanted to help a puppy who is different too! On her 10th birthday, her wish finally came true.

The Best Surprises Are The Fluffy Kind

Initially, Anna Grace was confused by the contents of the red envelope her mother handed her. She looked at the photo inside and asked her mom, “What’s that?”

“What does it look like?” her mom asked.

That’s when Anna Grace made the connection that the special little pup would soon be hers! Her mom explained that they would be traveling to northern Michigan near the Canadian border that weekend to pick up the very special puppy.

As excited as Anna Grace was for her 11-week-old bundle of fluff, she hadn’t realized yet just how special the dog really was.

“Look at it carefully. Look at its foot,” her mom told her. “She has a limb difference.”

At that moment, Anna Grace realized just how special her new puppy really is. So special that Anna Grace had no words – only a squeal of excitement! After that came the tears of pure joy.

“I’m crying in happiness,” said Anna Grace. “We’re getting a dog!”

One More Twist Of Fate Was Coming

Just like any good dog mom, Anna Grace came prepared. When she laid eyes on Kriket for the first time, Anna Grace excitedly exclaimed that she had brought something. She pulled out a brand new squeaky toy that she picked out just for Kriket!

One more beautiful twist of fate happened for Anna Grace and Kriket that day. One of the Canadian Border Patrol officers there also had a prosthetic limb that he received after an accident. He was so touched by Anna Grace and Kriket that he asked if he could meet them!

After all of the excitement, Kriket and Anna Grace quickly fell asleep snuggled together on the long ride home. Their bond was instant and will surely last a lifetime!

DJ Cuppy Celebrates Her Dogs’ 1st Birthday: “You Brought Out The Mother In Me”

Our dogs may not understand the concept of their birthday, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go over the top celebrating their existence every year. Florence Otedola, aka DJ Cuppy (or just “Cuppy”), who considers her two dogs her children, obviously is one of those people who celebrates her dogs’ birthdays big time.

Cuppy’s Pomeranians, Dúdú and FünFün, both turned 1 year old on February 17th, 2022. The “Green Light” artist threw a classy party at home for her dogs, even wearing a matching outfit.

The musician shared to her 8.3 million Instagram followers:

“Happy 1st Birthday to my sons @DuFuPoms 🎂🐕🐾 You bring some happiness to my hectic life! Although small and fluffy, you radiate unconditional love in such a big way. You’ve brought out the mother in me… I LOVE YOU BOTH so much!”

From photos, it seems Dúdú and FünFün celebrated their first birthday in style. They chowed on a specially made pink doggie cake from The Barking Bakery. The dogs also had some gifts wrapped in Cuppy Bitmoji wrapping paper and a dog birthday card.

None of this comes as any surprise, given how obsessed with her pups Cuppy clearly is. She even drew attention to their half-birthday six months ago.

A Pomeranian’s average lifespan ranges from 12 to 16 years, so this is just one of many elegant birthday celebrations Dúdú and FünFün will experience. Many happy returns, DuFu poms!

About Dúdú And FünFün

As Cuppy’s birthday post indicates, the two Pomeranians are brothers. As a twosome, they’re affectionately referred to as “DuFu.” Dúdú is the black Pom and FünFün is the tan dog.

Cuppy’s two dogs [of course] have their own personal Instagram account, @DuFuPoms (the one tagged in her birthday post.) The dogs’ account boasts over 42,000 followers. The London-based Nigerian DJ’s fans know and love her two dogs very well.

Cuppy has no human children, but these dogs are definitely her whole world. In a previous post, the disc jockey warned any potential suitors that if her dogs don’t like you, “we can’t date.”

She also posted photos of them on “Children’s Day” since they’re effectively her children. She adopted them as three-month-old puppies in May of 2021. If you can believe it, they were even tinier than they are now.

Once Wasting Away, Devoted Momma Dog Finds Forever Family

People all over the internet have been touched by the tale of dedicated mama dog, Celeste. Despite being calm, gentle, and loving, two-year-old Celeste was heartlessly abandoned while pregnant. She was forced to live and give birth unprotected on the streets.

Then, due to her difficult set of circumstances, she practically wasted away to nothing as she did everything within her power to care for her precious puppies.

Life’s not easy for a dog living on the streets. Nevermind being forced to birth, feed, and then keep five puppies safe on top of it all. It’s no surprise that Celeste was so severely emaciated when she and her five puppies were found. Every spare nutrient was spent keeping her puppies’ bellies full and keeping herself warm in the winter cold. 

“She was so thin and those puppies were just nursing like crazy, and she just did her job as a mom even though she was starving to death,” said Elaine, Celeste’s foster mom.

But despite their harsh start to life, Celeste’s puppies were found to be in near-perfect health. It was Celeste’s body that bore the wear of starvation as she fought to keep her five puppies alive. The devoted mom had done everything she could to keep them safe and healthy for an estimated five months. It was finally Celeste’s turn to experience a little TLC.

“Celeste would rather waste away than let her puppies starve. After a difficult life living outside, she has given everything to make sure her puppies are ok and it’s time that she is given the same love,” said the BC SPCA.

It felt like fate when Celeste and her puppies were welcomed into the home of BC SPCA foster mom Elaine Nelson-Hosak. Celeste came into her life shortly after the death of her best friend. It was almost as if the timing was pre-planned. They needed each other. Celeste and her puppies needed love and care, and who better to fill the ache of a broken heart than the unconditional love of a canine companion?

Then, slowly but surely, and thanks to a strictly regimented “refeeding” plan, Celeste was able to gain weight and build strength. Her body responded well to having six small, nutrient-dense meals per day, and it wasn’t long before she was at a healthy 90 pounds. Plus, four out of her five puppies found forever homes close-by, and they have already had an adorable reunion.

From the way she responded so well to treatment, and because she bonded so deeply with her foster mom, it became overwhelmingly clear that she had already found her forever home. Now Celeste, more affectionately called “Momma,” is living life as a pampered pup, enjoying snuggles with her family on the couch, and keeping cozy by the fire. It’s quite the contrast from her harsh life on the streets. No longer is she wasting away, but she’s finally where she belongs. Momma is finally warm, well-loved, and safe.

Dog Found Tied To A Tree With Her Drowned Puppies In 2019 Hurricane Still Needs A Home

In 2019, a dog known as Surge was abandoned amid the floodwaters of Hurricane Dorian. The now three-and-a-half-year-old dog is lucky to be alive, but she had to overcome a lot of trauma. While she survived, not all of her loved ones did.

Surge’s heartbreaking past hasn’t helped her find a forever home. After more than two years of searching, Surge is still waiting patiently at the Saint Frances Animal Center in South Carolina. The shelter hopes that a wonderful family will soon take a chance on this special pup. If anyone deserves a loving home, it’s her!

Fighting to Survive

During Hurricane Dorian, someone tied Surge to a tree and left her to drown. To make matters worse, newborn puppies were huddled around her. Sadly, all the puppies died as the floodwaters rose.

The following day, a neighbor spotted the dog sitting chest-deep in the water. Her lifeless puppies floated around her. The witness was horrified and contacted animal control immediately. Before animal control arrived, the neighbor untied Surge to save her from drowning. Surge grabbed one of the limp puppies and hid under someone’s house until help arrived.

Animal control was able to save Surge, but the dog was heartbroken. Unfortunately, no one will be charged for Surge’s suffering because there’s no proof of who abandoned her. However, the shelter is grateful to the strangers who tried to help her and called the authorities.

After getting necessary medical attention, Surge went up for adoption. Yet, she’s been waiting for a home ever since. Even though she’s a very sweet dog, her true personality doesn’t shine in a shelter setting.

Surge Needs a Home!

It’s hard for a dog’s true personality to shine at a shelter. So, when people come to see her, she often shows anxious behaviors like barking and spinning. She’s not aggressive in any way, but instead, she’s stressed. The shelter knows she would blossom in a home environment.

“She’s a great dog,” said Ashley Miller, an adoption counselor at the shelter. “She goes on doggies day out, so she gets to go to the beach, go to the previous adoption coordinator’s house with her children and pets, and does great. She loves walks and is super sweet.”

Surge is great with kids, but she would do best in a home without cats. She’s a little dog-selective but could make a good playmate for certain canines. She’s the perfect mix of laid-back and energetic. She would love to go for long walks but also cuddle on the couch.

Man Finds Urine Soaked Bag By Train Tracks Then Sees It Is Moving

A man and his dog were walking near railroad tracks in Vineland, New Jersey, when they witnessed a horrifying sight. They found a bag wrapped around several other bags that appeared to be moving. After further investigation, the man realized there was a tiny dog inside!

The man and dog duo happened to be in the right place at the right time. Luckily, they knew exactly what to do, and their quick thinking might’ve saved the canine’s life. Now, the dog, whose name is Coco, is taking time to recover and get used to humans as officials search for answers.

Dog in Distress

When the man found Coco, she was in a zipped duffel bag inside two plastic bags. The handles on the plastic bags were also tied shut. All the bags were soaked in urine, so the dog had likely been inside a while. The man knew he had to act fast.

“He immediately picked up the bag and brought it to the shelter. Inside was a young female Chihuahua. She and the bags she was in were soaked with urine,” the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter wrote.

The South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter took in Coco and gave her the care she’d been lacking. They posted a video of her coming out of the duffel bag for the first time, and it’s heartbreaking.

In the video, the poor Chihuahua runs away from the humans and struggles to walk at first. Yet, after a little love, it seems like the shelter staff members are able to win her over.

Tiny Dog with a Big Heart

After a long overdue vet checkup, Coco headed off to a loving foster home. Even though many people have expressed interest in adopting the brave pup, she isn’t up for adoption yet. However, there are plenty of other animals in need that are looking for forever homes.

“Coco was visibly shaken and lucky to be alive. Coco will be evaluated by the vet this afternoon,” the shelter wrote. “This horrific act of cruelty has been reported to the Vineland Police Department.”

The shelter is currently offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to Coco’s abuser. If you know anything about Coco’s past, please call the Vineland Police Department at 856-691-4111. The person who did this to her deserves to be punished for almost killing her. She’s lucky there are so many kind humans willing to help her recover after this traumatic abuse.
