Stick Library For Dogs Now Open For Business

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that make all the difference. A warm cup of coffee, a cozy blanket, and a hug from a friend are just a few. If you’re a dog, however, then joy comes in the form of treats, walks, belly scratches, and toys. And, if you were to take a survey of the dogs in your life, many would argue that there is no greater toy than a good old fashioned stick! It’s a timeless treasure for doggies across the globe.

Nature’s Toys Are Sometimes The Best Toys

One man in New Zealand understands the happiness that comes from a great piece of wood. 59-year-old Andrew Taylor knows the way to a dog’s heart. And, with that knowledge and a hint of creative flair, he decided to make a stick library! A new dog park was opening up in town and he figured a stick library would be the perfect final touch to give the park some pizzazz. He got to work constructing the box for all the local pups to enjoy.

“Our dog Bella had become a stick lover because she ripped to shreds any balls or toys,” Andrew’s daughter, Tayla Reece, told boredpanda.com.

Bella had taught him the importance of a good stick to gnaw on, but good things aren’t always easy to find. Andrew knew the trials and tribulations that can come along with hunting for the perfect natural chew toy.  Naturally, he tackled that problem too.

“While trimming the trees, my dad found himself with a lot of dead branches, and knowing from experience how hard it can be to find a good stick, and that the new dog park was opening soon, he had the idea that he would save them and put them in some kind of box,” Tayla said.

A Labor Of Love Creates A Box Of Joy

Andrew cut and sanded the perfect sticks for dogs of all sizes to enjoy. He created enough safe and mouth watering irresistible twigs for any dog looking for a little fun. Andrew’s labor of love didn’t go unnoticed.

He decided to call it a stick library so that it was implied that the sticks were to be returned. This way, other dogs could keep enjoying them much the same way books are shared in a library. Andrew invited people to bring their four-legged friends to try out the new stick library. Nearly 50 people and their dogs showed up!

“As people started to arrive, there was a disbelief of how simple the idea was, but it’s one of those ideas no one had thought of. All the dog owners appreciate it as they all have experienced the ‘good stick search’ which isn’t always fruitful, it’s an idea that just makes sense to them,” Tayla said.

It just goes to show that a little bit of love, kindness, and creativity goes a long way!
