Shelter Hosts a “Pitty Party” for Special Pit Bull Types Who Need a Home

The COVID-19 quarantine is impacting everyone, including dogs who need a forever home. Shelters rely on foot traffic to get exposure for their adoptable dogs. Quarantine restrictions mean that shelters are not open to the public at this time. They have to leverage social media, publicity, and promotions to get adoptable dogs in front of interested families. The local humane society serving St. Joseph County in northern Indiana is rising to the challenge with a “Pitty Party.”

Pitty Party is Promoting 10 Special Pit Bull Types

The Humane Society is throwing its Pitty Party through April 11th. During this time, selected Pit Bull types are being offered for adoption for an unbeatable adoption fee of only $10. A shelter representative reported that all of these dogs are wonderful, but some of them require special consideration.

For example, a dog may only get along with other big dogs, not small dogs or a dog may need to go in a home without children. Pit Bulls and Pit Mixes can make wonderful pets if given the right opportunity to fit into a family. It’s all about the care and love they receive, not the breed of dog they happen to be. The shelter’s website says,

In uncertain times we can always count on the love of a canine companion.

From now until April 11, 2020 we will have select pitbull type dogs available for a $10.00 adoption fee.

Adoption Process During Quarantine Period

The shelter is not open to the public during the stay-at-home order, so they are following different protocols than normal in handling meet and greets and adoptions. That being said, the process is easy and simple. Potential adopters must first fill out an application on the Humane Society of St. Joseph County’s website. The shelter will process the application in 24-48 hours. Once qualified, adopters can book an appointment to meet the dog or dogs they are interested in adopting. If everything goes well, the shelter will then set up an appointment for the new family to bring their dog home.

Some of these dogs have pet-specific restrictions, such as a family with no children or to be the only pet in the household. It’s important that adopters qualify for any restrictions so that the adopted dog will fit in well with the new family.
