Ellen Degeneres is known as a huge dog lover, especially when it comes to rescue pups. She and her wife Portia de Rossi had four adorable rescue dogs and three cats. Their oldest pup was a Poodle Maltese mix named Wolf.
Wolf had been with Degeneres for over a decade. He was there for many of the biggest moments in her life, including her wedding day in 2008. He brought so much joy to the couple and they seemed to make his life better too. So, Degeneres was heartbroken when she had to share the news that Wolf had passed away.
Rest in Peace, Wolf
Degeneres first adopted Wolf when he was just a young puppy. She introduced fans to him during her show, where she told them he was the cutest in the world. However, she encouraged the audience to stay quiet because poor Wolf was very scared and nervous.
Wolf had been found wandering the streets before he was adopted. He had been mistreated and he was malnourished. He couldn’t even stand up because his back legs couldn’t support him. So, Degeneres rescued him and gave him a loving place to heal. He eventually grew into a loving dog despite his rough past. He was a member of the family, so losing him was devastating.
“Last night we had to say goodbye to our dog Wolf. He brought us so much love and joy. I hope we did the same for him,” Degeneres posted on Instagram.
Degeneres also shared a picture of her with Wolf on her wedding day with the caption. Many fans commented broken heart and prayer emojis, including celebrities like Kris Jenner and Courtney Cox.
Degeneres’ Rescue Pups
Degeneres still has three other rescue dogs: Kid, Augie, and Mrs. Wallis Browning. The talk show host often discusses how much she loves animals. They’re the best companions you can have, and Wolf was definitely a great cuddle buddy.
“They offer unconditional love in ways humans can’t,” Degeneres said about her dogs. “Plus, they don’t talk back. Unless you have one of those dogs who says, ‘I ruv you,’ in which case, please videotape it and send it to my show.”
She also joked that she tries to keep her furry children out of the press. Although, it’s difficult for fans not to be interested in the celebrity’s adorable dogs. Losing Wolf was likely heartbreaking for Degeneres, but at least she knows that she helped save the little dog’s life. Plus, she can still make her other rescue dogs’ lives better each and every day.
Rest in peace, Wolf. You’ll be missed greatly.
