Dogs come in so many beautiful and unique shapes and sizes. Yet from the tiniest Chihuahua to the largest Great Dane, few can avoid being falsely labeled. Passing pedestrians always assumed my gorgeous Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was a girl. Some Husky parents constantly have to convince others they’re not walking a wolf around. A lot of people have dogs, and everybody has opinions.
That concept is what sparked a truly delightful hashtag challenge: the #WhatWasYourDogMistakenForChallenge. Social media users jumped at the chance to share their experiences with strangers mislabeling their pups. Whether your dog looks like a wolf or a bear or a mop, you’ll relate to these hilarious misconceptions.
“Is that a wolf?”
Cassie Is Not An Akita Mix Or German Shepherd
Her mom notes that Cassie is actually “95+% high content wolf dog, with a pinch (less than 5%) of Great Pyrenees, but folks come up with the weirdest ideas.”
“She’s Just A White Golden Retriever!”
This white Golden Retriever isn’t mixed with anything, no matter what people assume. Her mom says most common guesses are that she’s a Great Pyrenees.
Nope, Not A Squirrel
Despite her uncanny ability to climb trees, this Pittie has 0% squirrel in her DNA.
“Did Your Dog Get Stung By A Bee?”
Moose, a 7-year-old English Lab and Shar Pei mix, gets mistaken for all sorts of things. No, a bee never stung her, and she has no Mastiff in her either.
Not Wolf Nor Chow Nor Aussie
Apparently, many seem to think this dog is either part Chow, part Aussie, or part wolf. She’s actually none of the above.
“An Australian Shepherd, Nub And All”
Isaac gets mistaken for a St. Bernard, Husky, and Bernese Mountain dog all the time. However, his parent notes he’s an Australian Shepherd.
Not The English Bulldog He Looks
Though he often gets mistaken for an English Bulldog, that’s not what this guy really is. His mom says:
“He was rehomed to us in a rescue type situation so no we did not buy him. He’s a little quirky for a Frenchie but we love him how he is.”
The Lorax Wishes He Was This Cute
Yes, the Dr. Seuss character has a beard like this little pup. But his mom insists her dog “does not speak for the trees.”
So Rude To Assume A Lady’s Pregnant…
Though Rose has a little extra chunk to her, none of that is due to babies growing inside of her. This rescue Pittie/Heeler mix is currently on a diet, her mom says.
“She was fixed too soon and she eats like she has never been fed before.”
“An Ewok? A Bear?”
Nope, neither! Clearly, we can all agree that this dog is extremely huggable at least.
“Baby Yoda”
You’d think this dog’s coloring would be an indicator he’s not any aged Yoda.
