New App Reunites Lost Dogs Using Their Nose Prints

Your dog’s nose can do a lot of amazing things. It can smell far better than a human nose, but did you know that it can also bring lost dogs home? Thanks to a brand new app called NOSEiD, all it takes is your dog’s nose print to reunite them with their humans.

As it turns out, a dog’s nose print is just as unique as a human’s fingerprint. So, it’s just another way to keep your dog safe if they run loose. Of course, a microchip and identification tag is still necessary, but your furry friend could always use an extra level of protection.

Introducing NOSEiD

IAMS and the research team at adam&eveDDB worked together to make this app possible. About 10 million pets go missing in the United States every year. And sadly, a lot of them never find their way home. So, this app aims to help more lost dogs return home safely.

When you download the app, you can scan your dog’s nose print. Then, you can add photos and information about them. Other people in the area who want to help find lost dogs can download the app, too. Then, if your dog goes missing, you can mark them as lost in the app, which will alert the other users in your area. If someone thinks they have your dog, they can scan their nose to confirm.

This type of technology has been in the works for years, especially in other countries. But now, it’s about to be big in America, too. The app will work with shelters, rescues, dog walkers, and groomers to help get the word out and educate families on how to prevent their pets from getting lost.

The Future of Finding Lost Pets

The NOSEiD app is currently in a beta version that’s only available to families in the Nashville, Tennessee area. It has unique features for pet parents, such as a map of lost dogs nearby and a lost dog poster generator.

“Pets are irreplaceable family members, and with the NOSEiD app, we’re hoping to help keep more pets in their loving homes and out of shelters — taking another step toward our goal of ending pet homelessness,” said Craig Neely, vice president of marketing at Mars Petcare. “The app is designed to be a community resource, so whether someone has a dog or not, they’ll be able to join the NOSEiD community to help reunite lost dogs with their families in their own neighborhood.”

So, if you live in Nashville, be sure to download the NOSEiD app and get your pet registered. As for families in other cities, you’ll need to be patient and wait until this app expands to new locations. This could be the future of saving lost pets!
