Reporter Scores Exclusive With World’s Dumbest Dognapper – Justice Is Served

Folks, I gotta say, this one’s a doozy. It’s either something ripped from those viral videos of “dumb criminals” or the weirdest “mistake” you’ve ever heard. Let me explain: it all started when a dog was stolen from a parked car.

Around 12:30 pm on a Friday, Boston Police officers responded to a report that someone broke into a car and took a 13-month-old German Short Haired Pointer named Titus. Surveillance video later captured a man walking the dog over the Boston University Bridge.

A News Crew In The Right Place At The Right Time

Later, with Titus still at large, a 7NEWS crew was filming at the scene. At that moment, they saw Titus walking by with the same man. Naturally, they stopped him and asked why he had Titus, filming their interaction in a fascinating segment.

The news segment opens with a frank and honestly amusing explanation from the field reporter:

“That’s me, motioning to my photographer John to start rolling when I realized we had spotted the dog reported stolen in Cambridge and the man seen in surveillance video accused of taking him.”

The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Kyle Gariepy of Boston, offered this bizarre explanation:

“He was just barking in the car and I walked past the car and I thought it was supposed to be a dog I was dog walking. It wasn’t a kidnapping it was just a simple mistake.”

Even if one chose to believe that Titus was taken by accident, police said 24 hours had gone by since the dog went missing. Gariepy had not contacted the number on Titus’ tags. Well, he said that he attempted to, and it didn’t work, but there’s no evidence of that.

After the interview, the news crew called the police. Gariepy was arrested and charged with larceny of more than $1,200 and breaking and entering into a vehicle to commit a felony.

Titus Returns Home

When police arrived on the scene, so did Titus’ dad, Greg Siesczkiewicz, and the two were reunited joyfully. Siesczkiewicz thanked the news crew and praised their keen eye:

“I’m just glad that the person came back and I’m just glad that you guys were there.”

He also noted he’s grateful the crew covered the event in the first place. Otherwise, Titus may not have been noticed at all.

“If anyone ever sees this who question the value of media, social media, broadcast media, this proves it.”

I still don’t know what to make of the odd situation, but I’m glad Titus is back with whom he belongs.
