These Blind Pups Can Live Life To The Fullest Thanks To Rescue Bank

iHeartDogs works closely with Greater Good Charities by donating part of each sale to their various charity efforts. One of these programs, Rescue Bank, works to donate quality dog food to shelters and animal rescues in need. Some organizations could not run without kind donations like this, so by supporting us you’re making happy endings like the ones below possible!

Blind dogs may not have working eyes, but they still have their capacity for love and enjoying life. All they need is a secure environment to explore and someone to look out for them. That’s what Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas aims to provide.

Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas is a network of volunteers that “provide foster homes, love, shelter, transportation, grooming and food” for homeless dogs. The organization has a “Forever Foster Program,” which gives dogs a place to live and as much time as they need and deserve to find a permanent family.

Five Sight Deficient But Full-Hearted Dogs

CSRT took five blind or mostly blind dogs into their care: Hemmy, Precious, Moca, Scooby, and ZuZu. Handicapped animals have a harder time finding forever homes even though they have just as much love to give as a seeing dog.

As fosters with CSRT, these blind dogs get the care and attention they need. Hemmy was rescued after falling into a water-filled construction hole, which he couldn’t see. He managed to barely keep his head above water until he was rescued.

Precious sadly passed in 2019 because of her aggressive oral melanoma, but as a long-time foster, she was so adored by her family. CSRT explained in a Facebook post:

She lived the good life in the country, where she enjoyed taking long naps in her favorite chair and being treated like the princess she was.”

Zuzu is blind in one of her eyes. Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas took Zuzu in and got her the cataract surgery she sorely needed.

Moca was surrendered to “The Cocker Inn” (a home-base for the Forever Foster Program,) when her mom moved out of state. The 7-year-old still loves all people.

As for Scooby, his lack of eye sight just makes him want to be close to people at all times (a huge bonus.)

Despite the challenges being seeing impaired poses for these sweet dogs, the rescue says they’re well taken care of:

“They live on a half acre outside Houston and are confident and happy. They can run and play (even the blind ones) without feeling scared of traffic or falling in a hole.”

How Rescue Bank Gave These Dogs Happy Lives

As an animal welfare organization that benefits from Rescue Bank donations, Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas was able to provide all of these dogs with nutritious food and enriching toys. Most importantly, the money rescues save on these things allows them to allocate their funds towards other important aspects like medical care and boarding fees.

Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas shared:

“These animals were all homeless before being taken in by Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas. We depend on the food donations from Rescue Bank, as well as the Kong balls, to care for these animals.”
