Some dog lovers are upset about the recent actions of well-known talk show host, Andy Cohen. After rehoming his rescue dog of seven years due to “unpredictable aggression,” the star has now visited Wacha twice in the year since he let him go.
Cohen made the tough decision to rehome Wacha after he began to display aggression around his newborn son. The TV host states that he explored every option possible, only to eventually rehome Wacha with a family friend.
“Over the nearly seven years that I’ve been blessed to have Wacha in my life, we have worked to address some occasional random signs of aggression. No effort was spared in the attempt to help Wacha feel adjusted. After an incident a few months ago, numerous professionals led me to the conclusion that my home is simply not a good place for him.” – Andy Cohen
Most of us can acknowledge how difficult of a situation this would be. Though many dog lovers can support the desire to keep his newborn son safe, it is a bit more challenging to decide whether visiting Wacha after rehoming him is a good idea.
Wacha now lives with the family that watched the pup each time Cohen had to leave town for work. Wacha grew to love his second home over the years, making for the smoothest transition possible when Wacha was ultimately let go. Cohen states that Wacha is extremely happy with his new family.
However, one year after rehoming Wacha, Cohen has scheduled visits with the pup and his new family. Not only has Cohen visited the pup a few times, but it appears as if he has walked the pup around his old streets of New York. Wacha now lives in Connecticut with his new family, likely causing confusion with this change of location.
“I took him out for an hour walk, which is what I plan to do now, I plan to see him still. Wacha is going to stay in my life — that’s what I want you guys to know — this dog is going to stay in my life. He is a part of my life.” – Andy Cohen
We understand that a tough decision had to be made to protect his young son, but is it cruel to keep visiting Wacha after the trauma of being rehomed? Just as the pup gets used to his new reality, his previous fur parent swoops in for regular visits.
So we ask our readers, what do you think about Andy Cohen continuing to visit Wacha? Do you think this could be hindering the dog’s ability to move on?
