Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, many pets have become homeless. Families were forced to leave their furry friends behind, and shelters are struggling to care for the animals they have. Some Ukrainians have decided to take in more pets than they can handle to hopefully save their lives, but doing it alone is near impossible.
So, New York-based charity Paws of War is stepping up to do everything they can. They built and placed emergency feeding stations for pets across Ukraine, and they’re using donations to fill them. Keeping those feeding stations full has been a struggle, but they’re determined to keep supporting the homeless pets.
Ukraine Feeding Stations
Paws of War, an organization that helps veterans and shelter pets, has provided over seven tons of pet food and supplies to Ukraine since setting up the feeding stations. When the war began, volunteers quickly made the feeders to ensure that homeless pets wouldn’t suffer.
“It’s so important that we are in Ukraine talking to the people there, giving them the help they need to help themselves and the poor suffering animals left behind,” said Robert Misseri, the co-founder of Paws of War.

Misseri said that some Ukrainians have taken in as many as 20 to 40 extra dogs and cats so that they don’t have to see them starving and suffering. One Ukrainian named Daria is currently looking after 50 cats. So, Paws of War’s efforts in Ukraine have helped people like her support the animals in their care and themselves.
“Until Paws of War was able to bring me food, I would scavenge around empty houses and garbage looking for scraps of food, anything I could find,” Daria said. “Now I can give these poor cats a chance to survive, and God willing, I can get them to a safe home one day.”

Help From the Public
Paws of War has helped save the lives of many animals, but they’re struggling to provide enough food to keep the feeding stations full. Many people and pets in Ukraine are faced with hunger during these difficult times, so the organization is doing everything it can to provide basic needs for these humans and animals.
Not only is the charity collecting donations, but they also have volunteers near Ukraine to help purchase and deliver supplies. Many people are supporting the pets they kept with them, while many pets are wandering the streets after being left behind.

“Everywhere you look there are animals, once someone’s pet, roaming the streets desperate to find any morsel of food,” Paws of War said.
If you’d like to help fill the feeding stations in Ukraine, consider donating to Paws of War. Every donation could keep an animal’s belly full.
