The first Dane I had, I used to cook chicken and rice for him. He was allergic to the red food dye in kibble. That was a long time ago, I like to think commercial food has gotten better.

Mine has poultry sensitivity. Turns out most dog foods still have chicken even though it says “beef” or “salmon”. Super frustrating. Kirkland Nature’s Domain Salmon was the first one I could find that didnt. I recently was looking at others and there are now at least 3 other salmon options that do not also have chicken.

My deaf dog has gastrointestinal problems since birth. The vet told me to feed her LID (Limited Ingredient Diet) dog food 3x a day according to daily portion. Using Natural Balance is easy for her stomach. I suggest using free trials to test for diarrhea or solid. That’s how I found her allergies/sensitivities to seafood, duck/chicken, and beef. She is okay with venison but prefers bison meat and is healthy for 7 years.

Previous dane was allergic or sensitive to so many things. Did tests and elimination diets and found he had allergies to chicken, pork, turkey, and sensitivity to beef. I switched to raw because there were too many hidden ingredients in kibble (meat by-products, meat ‘meals,’ synthetics (sometimes derived from something he was allergic to), etc. With raw (either DIY or some premades), I can see exactly what he is eating. Also, what helped tremendously was testing his gut microbiome (I went through AnimalBiome), emailing lots of questions, doing FMT pills, and adjusting his diet to fix his gut flora.

Royal Canin Ultamino. Everything else we’ve tried made him sick, including a raw diet. This is the only food that works for us. Larry is allergic to meat and fish protein and cannot break it down properly. Ultamino pulverizes protein to a molecular level and tricks his body into getting the nutrients without the itchy skin and diarrhea.
